Lockport Asphalt Contractor

Serving the West Chicago Suburbs with Commercial & Residential Paving for 20+ Years
detached garage with new asphalt approach

Shamblin Paving provides asphalt paving, sealcoating and pavement maintenance for residential and commercial property owners in Lockport. We are family owned, based in Sugar Grove, and have worked across the western and southwestern Chicago suburbs since 2006 — driveways, parking lots, striping, crack sealing and long-term maintenance programs.

Lockport was laid out in 1837 as headquarters of the Illinois and Michigan Canal, and the canal still runs through the middle of it. Around 26,000 people live here now, across the limestone-and-brick historic district along State Street, the established neighborhoods on the bluff above the Des Plaines River, and the newer subdivisions spreading west toward Homer Glen. Few towns in the region have this much elevation change, and grade drives nearly every decision we make on a Lockport site.

Why Lockport Property Owners Choose Shamblin Paving

We are a local family business rather than a franchise operation. Our crews have completed hundreds of projects across Will, Kane and DuPage counties, and we live with our work — the references we give you are a short drive from your property.

  • Free Estimates, Written Pricing. We walk the property, explain what we are seeing, and give you a firm price before anything is scheduled.
  • Experience With Grade. Sloped drives, retaining edges, bluff-side lots and drainage that has to be actively directed are routine for us, not a surprise discovered on the day of the pour.
  • Minimal Disruption. Businesses stay open and residents keep parking. We phase larger lots, post the schedule in advance and hold to it.
  • Commercial and Residential. From a single driveway in the historic district to a multi-tenant lot on Route 7, the base prep and compaction standards do not change.

Asphalt Services in Lockport

  • Driveway Paving

Lockport driveways range from short historic-district aprons to steep bluff-side drives that need careful grading and edge support. Asphalt costs far less than concrete, tolerates freeze-thaw movement better, and gives 20 to 30 years of service when it is maintained. Most residential jobs are paved in a day and open to vehicles inside a week.

  • Driveway Sealcoating

A sloped drive sheds water fast, which sounds good until you consider that it also means constant surface flow across the asphalt. Sealcoating every two to four years protects the binder from that water, plus UV, salt and oil, and stops hairline cracking from opening into something structural.

  • Commercial Paving

Retail centers, industrial buildings, churches and multifamily properties throughout Lockport need lots engineered for their actual traffic. We handle new construction, overlays and full replacement, and every job starts with grading and subbase work rather than treating it as an afterthought.

  • Parking Lot Sealcoating

Oxidation turns asphalt gray and brittle, and brittle asphalt cracks. Sealcoating on a two to three year cycle is the least expensive line item in a pavement budget and the one that most affects how long the surface lasts. We work in sections to keep the property usable throughout.

  • Parking Lot Striping

Good striping moves traffic, maximizes stall count and keeps accessible routes compliant. Faded markings do the opposite and create exposure you do not need. We lay out stalls, arrows, fire lanes, loading zones and ADA parking to federal and Illinois standards.

  • Parking Lot Maintenance

Crack sealing, patching, pothole repair, infrared work and drainage correction — the unglamorous items that decide whether a lot gets resurfaced in year 12 or replaced in year 8. We will build a maintenance schedule and hold to it so nothing gets away from you.

What You Should Know About Paving in Lockport

Lockport’s geology and topography are genuinely unusual for this region, and both change how a paving job should be approached.

Shallow Dolomite Bedrock. The area sits on the dolomite limestone formation that takes its name from the town, and in places that rock lies close to the surface — which is precisely why the canal was cut here. Shallow rock is good news for bearing capacity and awkward news for excavation and drainage: water cannot percolate down, so it has to be moved across the surface and away by design.

Grade and Runoff. The drop from the bluff down to the canal and river corridor is significant. Water gains speed on a slope, and pavement edges, curb lines and driveway aprons absorb the abuse. Proper crowning, edge support and, where needed, drains or swales are what keep a sloped surface from undercutting itself.

Freeze-Thaw Movement. Frost reaches roughly three feet down in Will County. Water held in a saturated base expands as it freezes, heaves the surface, then leaves a void behind on thaw. Repeat that a dozen times over a winter and you get the cracking pattern visible on nearly every neglected lot in town.

Season and Permits. Asphalt goes down from roughly late April through November, while temperatures hold above about 50 degrees. New driveways, replacements and commercial work require permits through the City of Lockport, and properties inside the historic district may face additional review. We coordinate that for our customers.
