Soil and Drainage. Kane County soils in the Batavia area are predominantly silty clay loams. These soils hold moisture and expand when wet, which puts pressure on pavement from below. Proper subbase preparation, including adequate aggregate depth and grading for positive drainage, is essential for any paving project here.

Fall projects are viable but need to be scheduled early enough for proper curing before the first hard freeze, which historically arrives in late October or early November.
