Asphalt Driveway Installation
REQUEST A QUOTE
At Shamblin Paving, we provide asphalt driveway installation for homeowners across Aurora and the western Chicago suburbs, from new construction homes to gravel conversions and added parking areas. A new driveway should look good on day one and still look good a decade later, which is why every install starts with proper grading, a compacted sub base, and asphalt placed to the right depth for residential use.
Homeowners tell us how much they appreciate how straightforward we are to work with. We show up when we say we will, communicate clearly through every stage of the project, and leave your property looking better than we found it. No high-pressure sales tactics, no surprise charges, just honest work, professional crews, and a team that respects your time and your home.
New Asphalt Driveway Installation
Is Asphalt the Right Choice for Your Property?
Asphalt is the most popular driveway material in the Chicagoland area for good reason. It is flexible enough to handle Illinois freeze-thaw cycles, faster to install than concrete, easier to repair, and offers a clean, finished look that complements any home. A properly installed asphalt driveway can last 20 to 30 years with routine maintenance.
Whether you are building a new home, replacing a gravel drive, or adding a parking area for an RV, boat, or extra vehicle, we design and install the driveway to fit your property, drainage, and how you actually use it.
Our Process
Our asphalt driveway installation includes:
- Site assessment to evaluate soil conditions, slope, and drainage
- Excavation and removal of topsoil, vegetation, or any unsuitable material
- Grading the subgrade to establish proper slope and drainage
- Installing and compacting a high-quality aggregate base for long-term strength and stability
- Paving a properly compacted layer of hot mix asphalt
- Finishing with clean edges and a slope that prevents standing water
Once cured, we recommend protecting your investment with driveway sealcoating on a regular maintenance schedule to extend the surface life and resist UV oxidation.

Gravel-to-Asphalt Driveway Installation
When to Convert From Gravel to Asphalt
Gravel driveways are inexpensive up front but require constant maintenance — refilling washouts, regrading after heavy rain, dealing with dust, tracked stones, and ruts that always come back. Converting to asphalt eliminates almost all of that ongoing work.
A properly built asphalt driveway gives you a smooth, clean, low-maintenance surface that is easier to plow in winter, easier to walk and roll on, and dramatically better looking. Existing gravel often serves as part of the new aggregate base, but soil conditions, depth, and drainage all need to be evaluated first.
Our Process
Our gravel-to-asphalt conversion includes:
- Evaluating the existing gravel depth, compaction, and drainage
- Excavating where needed and removing organic or unsuitable material
- Supplementing and re-grading the aggregate base, then compacting to spec
- Correcting slope and drainage so water flows away from the home
- Paving and compacting hot mix asphalt at proper thickness
- Finishing clean edges and transitions to the garage, street, and any landscaped areas
New Construction and Driveway Additions
We work directly with homeowners and general contractors on new-construction driveways for newly built homes, as well as adding new sections to existing properties — extra parking pads, RV or boat aprons, garage access drives, and side-yard extensions. We coordinate with site grading and drainage already in place, and tie new asphalt cleanly into existing pavement, garage aprons, and streets.
Other Driveway Options
If you have an existing driveway that is starting to fail rather than a clean lot to install on, we offer several other services:
- Asphalt Driveway Replacement — Full tear-out and reinstall when the existing driveway has failed beyond repair.
- Driveway Repair — Targeted patching, crack filling, and sawcut-and-replace for localized damage.
- Driveway Sealcoating — Protective coating that extends the life of a sound asphalt driveway.
