Channahon Asphalt Contractor

Shamblin Paving is a family-owned asphalt contractor working throughout Channahon and the surrounding Will County communities. We are based in Sugar Grove and have run crews across the Chicago suburbs for more than two decades, covering everything from residential driveways to full parking lot construction, sealcoating, striping, crack sealing and scheduled maintenance programs.

Channahon sits where the DuPage, Des Plaines and Kankakee rivers come together, roughly 50 miles southwest of Chicago — the village name comes from a Potawatomi phrase describing that meeting of the waters. About 13,000 people live here, split between the residential subdivisions north of Route 6, the older village center near the I&M Canal, and the industrial and logistics properties lining the I-55 and Route 6 corridors. River-bottom ground and constant heavy truck traffic put two very different kinds of stress on pavement, and both have to be accounted for before the first load of asphalt arrives.
Why Channahon Property Owners Choose Shamblin Paving
We are not a national franchise or an out-of-state crew passing through for a season. Shamblin Paving is a local, family-run company headquartered in Sugar Grove, and we have completed hundreds of paving and sealcoating projects across Will, Grundy, Kane and DuPage counties since 2006.
- Free Estimates and Upfront Pricing. We walk the site with you, point out what actually needs attention, and put a firm number in writing before anything gets scheduled.
- Two Decades in the Region. We know how river-valley ground behaves, when the season realistically closes, and which repairs are worth doing now versus next spring.
- Work Around Your Schedule. Distribution yards and truck courts cannot simply shut down. We phase the work, keep lanes open where possible, and give you a timeline we can hold to.
- Residential and Commercial. A single driveway off Bluff Road and a multi-acre truck lot near I-55 get the same base preparation and the same crew standards.
Asphalt Services in Channahon
Driveway Paving
Asphalt is the practical choice for Channahon driveways: it costs substantially less than concrete, flexes with the freeze-thaw cycle instead of fracturing, and lasts 20 to 30 years when it is sealed on schedule. We pave in the established neighborhoods off Route 6, the newer subdivisions on the north side, and the long rural drives out toward the Grundy County line. Most residential jobs are finished in one day and open to traffic within a week.
Driveway Sealcoating
Sealcoat is the cheapest protection you can buy for asphalt. It blocks UV, standing water, gasoline drips and road salt from reaching the binder that holds the surface together. In this climate a fresh coat every two to four years keeps pavement dark and flexible and heads off the hairline cracking that eventually becomes full-depth repair.
Commercial Paving
Warehouse aprons, truck courts and retail lots along the Route 6 and I-55 corridors carry loads a residential section simply cannot handle. We build these lots for the traffic they will actually see, with the base depth and compaction to match, and we handle new installation, overlays and full removal-and-replacement.
Parking Lot Sealcoating
Commercial sealcoating is scheduled work, not emergency work. Applied every two to three years it shields the surface from oxidation, chemical spills and moisture intrusion. We section off the lot and work in phases so customers, tenants and delivery trucks keep moving throughout.
Parking Lot Striping
Layout does more than look tidy — it controls how traffic moves and where trucks can turn. Worn stalls, faded fire lanes and unreadable accessible markings create real liability. Our striping crews lay out stalls, directional arrows, loading zones, fire lanes and ADA spaces that meet federal accessible-parking guidance.
Parking Lot Maintenance
Small problems are cheap and ignored problems are not. Crack sealing, pothole patching, infrared repair and catch-basin work are what keep a lot from needing replacement a decade early. Industry guidance from the Asphalt Institute has long held that every dollar spent on preventive maintenance returns several dollars in avoided repair cost.

What You Should Know About Paving in Channahon
Ground conditions and climate in the lower Des Plaines valley shape how long pavement lasts here. A few things worth understanding before you commit to a project.
Soil and Drainage. Channahon’s river bottoms carry alluvial deposits — sand, silt and gravel — while ground away from the water is closer to the silty clay loam found across northern Illinois. Clay swells as it takes on water and pushes upward on whatever sits above it; sandy river ground drains quickly but washes out if the base is not properly confined. Either way the answer is the same: adequate stone depth, genuine compaction, and grading that moves water off the surface instead of letting it pond.
Frost Depth. Frost penetrates roughly three to three and a half feet in this part of Illinois. Water trapped in a poorly compacted base expands as it freezes, lifts the pavement, then leaves a void behind when it thaws. That cycle, repeated every winter, is the single biggest reason asphalt cracks and potholes form here.
Heavy Traffic Loading. Large sections of Channahon see constant semi traffic. One loaded tractor-trailer does far more damage to pavement than thousands of passenger cars, which is why truck routes and dock approaches need thicker sections and a stronger base than a customer parking area a hundred feet away.
Season and Permits. The paving window generally opens in late April and closes in November, since asphalt needs ground and air temperatures above roughly 50 degrees and rising to compact correctly. New driveways, driveway widening and commercial paving typically require a village permit — we handle that paperwork for our Channahon projects.
